Meditation Circle

u

At the Pawlet Public Library
Tuesdays 9:30-11:00

The Pawlet Meditation Circle meets regularly at the Pawlet Public Library, downstairs in the quiet Matt Waite room, on Tuesdays and occasionally on Sundays, too. Our mission is to provide community, space, and discussion for people who wish to meditate together whatever their background or level of experience, coming together with a spirit of gentleness and intellectual humility.

We provide space where people can come in, learn, and meditate who might not have done so on their own. A few people meditating and cultivating inner peace, may make a difference for themselves and others, thus making the community a more peaceful place overall. If this doesn’t resonate, then being a little less stressed and more sensitive to wisdom is also good!

Anyone can talk about their experiences, and, if they wish, ask for guidance from others. There is no teacher or guru who presides over the group, nor are we bound to any specific meditative tradition. Rather, we welcome and value equally a diversity of traditions and personal perspectives.

We have no formal structure, but do both sitting and walking meditation each time that we meet. Recently, we have been meditating for an hour, and anyone may stand up and do a quiet walking meditation around the room during that hour if and when they wish. But sometimes we divide the time into set sitting and walking portions, if people feel more comfortable with that format. If you are new to meditation and would feel more comfortable with shorter sessions, we can hold two 20 minute sittings with walking in between. Occasionally, someone may lead a meditation or offer instruction, providing those in attendance are interested in exploring that particular approach. We end by discussing our experiences, and meditative topics and philosophy.

This group was started by my friend Maieshe who provides continuity and email updates for the group, and also composed much of the above description. Maieshe and I share a resonance and a sense of being a sangha, which we hope will extend to others who regularly join us. We enjoy in depth spiritual discussions about enlightenment, ego, and how to live and implement insights into everyday life. An open receptive practice tends to evolve itself and share unexpected synchronicity with others. There is always some kind of overlap with whoever shows up to meditate. Please join us when you can.

Maieshe manages an email list for the group, sending out reminders and updates once a week at the most, but typically less. On my subscribe page there is a box you can check to be put on our list.
