An Animal is also a Home
#78 in the Drawing into Trauma Series. This image resembles an animal integrated in a landscape which is also its home. Nestled within the animal is yet another animal or home. The drawing explores the multidimensional feeling of being at home within oneself, while simultaneously embedded within land and surroundings. It represents a new ability to nurture my primal emotions and self, while simultaneously blending into a larger world and landscape. In the past, nurturing myself often meant not fitting in to an external situation. In the past, in order to belong to the world or group, I had to subtly abandon myself. So the drawing signifies personal healing, as it reflects back an open yet quietly grounded strength. It feels like a self portrait.
(Like a dream, my artwork emerges fresh from the subconscious without preconceptions. Afterward, I feel into what it means. Each piece might represent something entirely different to someone else. I welcome feedback on what the work invokes in you.)
